LATE NIGHT HOTLINES
if you've watched tv anytime after 10pm, you've seen the commercials. maybe it's the one with some blonde chick talking in a low sexy voice cooing about how she loves to spend her time on the phone with strangers late at night. or maybe it's the one with the girl rolling around on her couch holding a cordless phone circa 2000 and smiling suggestively at the camera (something tells me the commercials double as proverbial fluffers before the main event, i.e. porn). the point is, they're all trying to convince you that these free-to-try hotlines are the best place to meet singles. men, women, animals, the like.
what i don't get is, WHO CALLS THESE NUMBERS?! bc i'm almost 100% positive they aren't effective. (but maybe they're popular bc the ads double in exposure every time i watch late night tv?) the commercials run all night, during every commercial break, and it's usually the same ones if not back-to-back. and every time i see one, i wonder what desperate soul is frantically dialing their cell phones (landlines are too dangerous... what if mom, dad or other "roommates" pick up the phone mid call?).
then i remember... if you have to ask, there's always someone dumb (adjective is interchangeable) enough to do it.
ps, a gem i picked up: "i smile so much now, you wanna know why?"
please, please, PLEASE tell me.
